Queen’s Sport run Northern Ireland’s most extensive children’s climbing programmes with hundreds of children involved each week! Courses usually run 3 times per year, coinciding with school terms, i.e.




This varies from year to year depending on how holidays fall. Courses are 7-13 weeks long. We also have the highest instructor ratio around with 1 instructor for every 4 children, ensuring that the kids are safe and have the most fun.

Rock Monkeys (6 – 7)

A 1 hour, fully supervised, safe and fun climbing club for children. Really just an opportunity to play games that involve climbing!

Note: It has been known to take children at 5 years old but this is at the discretion of the instructors.

Wall Stars (8 – 9)

1.5 hrs fully supervised, safe and fun climbing club for children. The emphasis is on developing agility, balance and coordination – the FUNdamentals of climbing! NICAS Level 1 can be achieved in 2 terms.

Junior Mountaineers (10 – 12)

A 1.5hr session to climb and climb! Coaching, games and competitions. Lead climbing is taught to the more experienced kids on this course. The Everest wall is used when it is available NICAS Level 2 can be achieved in 3 terms.

Everest Explorers (13 – 17)

A course for teenagers to come down and chill at the wall with friends in a class with a more laid back atmosphere. Kids are encouraged to take more responsibility for themselves and for each other. Lead Climbing is taught to those who are ready.

Climbing Squad

Queen’s Climbing Squad has been designed for children showing a particular talent for rock climbing. The class is by invitation only and children are offered places based on ability, behaviour, enthusiasm and commitment. The class concentrates on coaching technique, with a strong emphasis on bouldering. All the kids are expected to lead climb and to attend the Youth Climbing Series.

Children are coached by some of Ireland’s top climbers and there are opportunities to progress to the Northern Ireland Youth Climbing Team.
